United Way Issues Urgent Call

United Way of S.D.& G is facing a fundraising crisis. While this year’s campaign is scheduled to end this week, the organization finds itself not only falling short of this year’s target, but coming up nearly $70,000 short of last year’s campaign.

Campaign Chair, Scott Armstrong says it almost feels like the IMPERFECT STORM. “When you consider the economy and the fact that there are other groups conducting new campaigns this year, it creates great challenges.”

Armstrong adds, “The economic paradox is that while we are all feeling the effects, those in the greatest need are feeling it the most. In the last two years, we’ve seen the need in our community increase nearly 25%. Right now, approximately 30,000 people across the region are being helped by a United Way funded agency.

United Way President, Kevin Wilson adds, “Our ability to continue to fund these agencies at the level of need is in serious jeopardy. Wilson says, “ We will extend the campaign until the end of the month, but if we can’t raise the funds, the new year will force us to make tough decisions about who we can help and how much”.

Armstrong urges everyone across S.D& G to do what they can to help. “If you haven’t contributed yet, call the office and just make a pledge. We’ll collect the money later”.
